Warming His Heart pt 2

    A week or so after her visit to Moor of Memories, Reckoner realized that she couldn’t stop thinking about Jack. Whenever she thought of him, she felt excited and felt...butterflies. She was considering the idea that she may have grown some feelings for the cross. She tried to push them out of her head, though. He told her that he was trying to get a different girl, so it was probably best to just...try to ignore these feelings. But she found she couldn’t.

    Even if Jack didn’t gain Nel as a mate or whatever, there was no way that he’d be interested in her. She was just a little Petilil with little self confidence. But after some thinking, she knew she could change one of those things rather quickly and easily.

    Once she was evolved, she felt a bit better about herself. She at least looked like a respectable lady now. Hopefully she looked good enough for Jack…

    So she visited the ranch where Jack lived again, but she could not find him. She did find two Pachirisu, however.

    “Um, hello,” she said to the two. “Would you happen to know where Jack is?”

    The two Pachirisu looked at each other, then back to Reckoner.

    “My dad is currently preoccupied,” one of them, a girl, said. Dad? These two must be Jack’s children.

    “Well, I can wait,” Reckoner said. She sat down next to the children. “So you are his kids? What are your names?” she asked even though she already knew.

    “I’m Luna,” the girl Pachirisu said.

    “I am Sol,” the other one said, this one a boy.“And what’s your name?”

    “Reckoner,” she said. “Does Jack talk about me ever? We have met before,” she said.

    Luna thought for a minute. “No, I don’t think so,” Luna said.

    Reckoner was disappointed. Her hopes were too high. “Figures,” she says.

    “Why do you want to see my father?” Luna asked.

    “Well, I...I guess...You see, I...uh…” Reckoner’s face flushed to a bright red. She looked down to see Luna stifling laughter. This in turn made Reckoner blush even more.

    “Say no more,” Luna said smiling. But her smile faded away quickly. “But dad isn’t doing well right now.”

    “What? Why?” Reckoner asked, concern plaguing her.

    “We...aren’t very sure,” Sol said with a disheveled look on his face. Reckoner was worried. Jack wasn’t doing well, what on Earth could be the reason why?

    “I...I have to go see what’s wrong with him,” she said as she stood up. “I’d hate to interrupt him during whatever he is doing but...I need to know what’s wrong!” she begged the kids.

    The Pachirisu siblings looked at each other again. “Truth be told,” Luna said, “He isn’t preoccupied with anything right now. We just said that because we’re trying to protect him. But since you seem like a good friend of his, we will take you to him.” Reckoner was a bit surprised to hear the truth but she understood completely.

    The two Pachirisu started walking through some trees. “This way,” Sol said. Reckoner nodded and followed them to their father.
